6 Reasons To Introduce A Universal Basic Income Today

Did you know that there is something that can solve some of the biggest problems of our society and stop millions from suffering? It’s called Universal Basic Income and here are 6 reasons why it’s necessary.

Poverty

Most commonly, poverty is caused by the lack of cash which puts people into a vicious circle of poverty and lack of time, without time to get education, they seek terrible jobs that destroy their health and forces them to live paycheck to paycheck, which isn’t enough to make a living anyway, so these people get sick and with huge loans, which also requires money.

And that was only the average, many times these people are forced to commit crimes and other illegal activities for some dollars.

Crime

It is proven by experiment that a universal basic income would dramatically reduce crime and rise millions above the poverty line.

“There were also other notable effects, like a 42 percent drop in crime, huge reductions in child malnutrition and school dropout rates, and a 301 percent increase in self-employment.”, a huffingtonpost report mentions.

Unemployment

Job guarantee is not the answer to employment, for obvious reasons a universal basic income would easily do the job more efficiently.

“A job guarantee will result to many useless job positions that will only be good for its low unemployment numbers, while these jobs are totally useless.

Instead of job guarantee, a universal basic income would provide people with the basic resources to choose the right job for them, or even start their own business.

Another argument of those who suggest a job guarantee is “how do we pay for universal basic income?”, and the answer to this is really simple. Replacing the current expensive and inefficient welfare system.”, according to report.

Human Rights

The article 25 of the universal declaration of human rights says that “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family,” it continues:

“including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”

A universal basic income can solve the great problem by giving people enough consuming power to do the basics, fulfilling that way the currently unfulfilled human right.

Economy

Economists are saying that a universal basic income (UBI) would boost the US economy by a staggering of 2.5 trillion dollars, assuming that every US citizen receives $1.000 a month.

A study carried out by the Roosevelt Institute has concluded that implementing a UBI in the U.S. could have a positive effect on the nation’s economy.

They projected that the $1,000 basic income would grow the economy by 12.56 percent over the course of eight years, after which point its effect would diminish. That would translate to an increase in the country’s gross domestic product of $2.48 trillion.

Note that people like Elon Musk, Sir Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg have also spoken in favor of universal basic income.

Health

They say that health comes first, what is more important that being healthy? Universal basic income is proved to improve your health.

According to research, “UBI may have a revolutionary effect on stress among those in and out of work, raising health and, potentially, productivity in the process.” a report by labourlist mentions.

In the context of a research on universal basic income (UBI) that took place through a study entitled ‘A Cross-cultural Working Group on “Good Culture” and Precariousness’, it was found that UBI can reduce work-related stress.
